Why Lake City, Florida?

We moved to South Florida but after a few years decided, like so many others, a change was in order. Lake City wasn’t an obvious choice. If you were driving to Disney World from Atlanta, Georgia, you’d probably blink and miss it. So what was the attraction?

  2. Close to the I-75 and I-10, you can drive anywhere in case of emergencies.
  3. The geology is stable here.
  4. The climate is not as freaking hot.

I like to go jogging at the city’s Lake De Soto. There’s a paved trail around it and happy ducks quacking, it’s nice. It has a small-town feel. The city currently has about 13,000 people, too small for a Costco or a Wholefoods. I have no doubt that will change once the manufacturing and distribution industries get hatched here. It only makes sense.

I compiled a to-do list for like-minded activists. However, this process might apply to anywhere there is an opportunity, not just Lake City. I’m suggesting Lake City for selfish reasons- I like it here.

As of 2022, Columbia County has a population of about 70,000 with room to grow. There are opportunities for fabrication shops to set up here. Lake City is close to major logistical arteries I-75 and I-10. The I-75 serves distribution from Miami Florida to Atlanta Georgia. The I-10 serves distribution from the Pacific Ocean in California to the Atlantic Ocean in Florida. Atlanta Georgia has the largest most modern air distribution in the US. It makes sense financially and logistically to grow business and manufacturing in the area.

Once a rural area, Lake City has the potential to be a hub for small manufacturing to supplement the Supply Chain. Building in Columbia county is one of the least expensive areas. The weather is calm providing the least risk to natural forces.

Lake City’s infrastructure has continued to develop. Power upgrades, WIFI, and Natural Gas continue to advance.
